Aftercare for all SPMU procedures
Careful attention needs to be taken when caring for your semi – permanent makeup (SPMU) post procedure, within the next 3 days your treated area will lightly scab over then slough away, do not pick or pull at the treated area, and only use aftercare provided. Do not get area wet or allow the jets of the shower to hit you directly in the tattooed area in the first 7 days.
It will take 24 hours for the area to create a protective barrier, your final colour result will take 28 days. A retouch cannot in any circumstances take place until 28 days as scarring may occur.
Your procedure will take 3 phases – 1) heal; 2) peel; 3) fade. We do not recommend that make up is worn post procedure or during the healing process, if makeup must be worn, we recommend Combat Cosmetics minerals with Manuka honey.
If aftercare is not followed procedures will not heal correctly and results will be poor!
Allow the brows to dry heal for 3 – 5 days, then apply a small amount of aftercare with a cotton bud once a day when needed for up to 3 days. If your skin is oily in the T-zone we recommend that aftercare should not be applied.
No vigorous exercise for 4/5 days. No hot showers, saunas, Jacuzzi or swimming in chlorinated pools for 7-10 days, as these will affect the treated areas. Avoid direct sun and sunbeds. Ensure no creams, soap, make-up or cleansers touch the area for 7 days. No brow or lash tinting for at least 14 days.
Do not pick, pull or touch the treated area, swelling may appear in the next 24 hours but will be minimal.
Your lips will feel dry and chipped. Apply a fine film of aftercare with a cotton wool bud 3 times a day for up to 1 week, avoid spicy or citrus foods for 7 days. Be careful when brushing teeth as toothpaste can fade colour during the healing process.
On day 3 your lip colour will start to flake away, do not be alarmed if the line or part of has faded or disappeared, this usual in the lip healing process due to lips being a membrane, by day 10 you will see the line start to re appear and the colour will brighten up to 3 months after.
Try to keep the lips as clean as possible and use straw for drinking. It is difficult to not talk, drink or eat while the procedure heals, so do so carefully and avoid over stretching the mouth, which can cause the scabs to rip or bleed. Moisturizing will help remedy this.
Waking the day after this procedure the are may appear swollen or puffy. The reason for this is lymphatic fluid flows to the area to heal where the skin has been broken. When you are up and about the puffiness will reduce as lymphatic drainage will occur.
If you experience any discomfort in the next 24 hours a cold compress may be applied to the area (if you use ice it must be dry - in a bag wrapped in a towel). Do not apply any aftercare to the eyeliners. Do not wear eye makeup of any kind for at least 5 days.
Do not pick at the area as this will cause gaps in the liner. Please be aware that water or tears will wash pigment away within the first week.
Red Cross has advised not to give blood for 6 months following a semi-permanent makeup procedure.
Do not have any form of laser in the direct area, the pigment will alter due to titanium dioxide in the pigment.
For MRI scans inform the operator of your SPMU procedure you may feel a slight tingling sensation in the treated area. SPMU shows as an artefact through these scanners.
Ensure the procedure is healed before considering Botox or collagen fillers in this direct area.
If you have any concerns regarding the healing of the area please contact your technician.
If the area becomes infected please seek advice from your GP, do not pick area.
What will my eyebrows look like after treatment?
Immediately after treatment the eyebrows will be much darker and slightly wider that when they heal. What are you seeing is the surface residue pigment and blood mixed, just as if you were to scratch yourself, the scratch would be blood red. When the eyebrows heal you will see what is underneath the skin, the colour will heal softer and more muted.
There will be minimal swelling and redness, which subsides quickly, within an hour or two. The area will feel hot, like sunburn and you may have a mild headache.
DAY AND AFFECT
Day 1 Eyebrows appear darker and wider than healed. The skin is red under the pigment, which causes brows to appear darker.
Day 2 As Day 1 still lightly tender to the touch
Day 3 Eyebrows begin to itch and will appear a bit thicker in the texture.
Day 4 Skin begins to thicken and flake – this should be a gentle exfoliation of colour. From the evening of Day 4, you may apply a small glossing of provided aftercare balm at night. This is to stop you scratching in your sleep and pulling out the colour.
Day 5-8 Excess surface colour continues to flake away and may look uneven and very patch, this is totally normal. Do not pick or pull at the flaky skin (scab), touch gently and if it comes away by itself, great, if not leave it.
Day 7-8 Should finish scabbing. The colour will appear quite faint in places and softer overall. A second treatment will be required to deepen colour. The colour appears very faint on day 7-13, but it does re-emerge and clarify on days 14-35.
This is the normal process of cellular renewal and the healing of skin.
